i feel a shadow cast across the land
taking root and bearing dark fruit that stains the hands
a hue that resonates through the daylight
finding breaks and seeping into waking life

the salt of my soul is hidden deep and still
it makes its way to tint the taste of rain that quickly fills
tiny pools and little lakes. the wind and pressure change,
bringing solace to the heart that will never cease to ache.

it chases me, calls my name when i'm out of sight
gradually gaining momentum, charging down the line
if i am to survive for the moment, i must blindly fight,
for it has already taken a heart more true than mine

am i just walking farther from the rhythm? it's faint and distant.
memory and guilt have become so tighly twisted
that every morning, i meet it's faceless stare, every moment
through the day from then on, in it's infinite unfolding
