so many funny faces
in the mirror and i made myself laugh
it made me think of my parents
who set the clocks ten minutes fast

our baby is laughing alone
in the bathroom, all stoned,

trying hard to find something else
in all the hurt.
this world can dish out

all the time is just a blur
after midnight nothing stirs
when i drive the cold and quiet
roads of the suburbs.
a bandit-masked face stares
blood frozen in matted hair
tiny back legs smashed
on the shoulder, and i don't care?
people starving next-door,
and im so concerned with what i wear?
if everything is wrong, why don't i fly?
or let my teeth bare?

no, the only time i fight
is with a vestige in the night
exchanging harsh words and empty threats
when i only want "goodbye"
and my defense is the fearsome
cinnamon glow of the false eyes
on the wings behind my shoulders
unhinged stubborn mandibles
but you put me on my back
put me in a deep trance sleep
and i'm falling hard
into sweet hands that wanna help me
shake off the tonic immobility
how strange the trees get bare
in the same autumn air that allowed me to breathe
billions of apples and pears on
trillions of leaves
the fruit tastes
spoiled and poisonous
