daydreams of running into you

the tiny thoughts that barely get me through
the remainder of the day when i've just about had it

caught again beneath the weight of my tongue
fumbling for a reprieve, or am i done?
sinking mud and i'm knee deep
clay in my lungs when i'm speaking
and all i can conjour is "sorry"

daydreams of taking off
shipping out and getting lost
wading too deep into the rip tide
pulled through the blue-green, dipping out of sight

when i come to, coughing up bits of fish and driftwood
it should spit me out somewhere dry
first breath after near-death shipwreck
refreshed and feeling like i'm never gonna die
